Crypto wallet analysis

How to analyze a crypto wallet address.

Wallet analysis means examining what a public address holds, what activity is visible, and which sources flag it—not assigning one “safe” or “risky” score. Memoir brings assets, transaction history, direct relationships and named public risk signals into one free Ethereum and Base workspace. You can inspect the evidence yourself or select a snapshot for source-cited AI explanation.

Check a public address

Inspect Ethereum and Base activity, assets and public signals. No wallet connection or account needed.

Public address only—never a seed phrase or private key. Have an ENS name or transaction? Start on Memoir.

What “check a wallet address” can mean

People use wallet checker, crypto address lookup, and wallet screening to describe several different questions. The result is only useful when the question is explicit.

QuestionUseful evidenceWhat it cannot establish alone
Is this a valid address?Address format and account or contract observationsThat someone controls it or that sending funds is safe
Does a public risk source name it?Source-attributed sanctions, scam, exploit, or service labelsA complete risk judgment when sources return no match
What has it done?Chronological transactions, token transfers, logs, and direct counterpartiesEvery action across unsupported chains or truncated indexes
What does it hold?Current native, token, NFT, and admitted protocol positionsHidden custody, unsupported protocols, or future ownership
Who owns it?An explicit attribution published by a cited sourceVerified identity from behavioral resemblance

Check an Ethereum or Base address in Memoir

  1. Paste the public address or ENS name into Memoir's address lookup. Read the Ethereum and Base observations separately: the same hexadecimal address can have different activity or account types on different chains. An investigation never needs a seed phrase, private key, signature, or wallet connection.
  2. Wait for independent sources. Account facts, assets, protocol positions, public signals, relationships, and activity can finish or fail separately.
  3. Read coverage before conclusions. A source can return a match, no match, partial coverage, timeout, or unavailable result.
  4. Inspect the chronological ledger and asset facts. Follow source links, compare outgoing and incoming movements, and select the records and address facts relevant to your question. Receiving an unsolicited token does not establish that the address owner requested or endorsed it.
  5. Review before AI analysis. Choose Review & explain to inspect the frozen selection, time range and missing coverage. Analyze selected evidence is a separate action: your chosen provider sees that snapshot, not an automatically completed lifetime history. The amount of timeline content visible on screen does not redefine the frozen selection.

Wallet analysis examples: three different questions

These public sample reports preserve dated evidence and source citations. They are worked examples, not live verdicts about an address.

What does this wallet's activity actually show?

The vitalik.eth wallet analysis report separates unsolicited token receipts, public attribution and delegated account state. Start with the observed movements, open the supporting evidence, and distinguish receipt from deliberate action. A familiar label does not verify current control of an address.

Does the same address mean the same thing on another chain?

The Base bridge address report compares independently observed Ethereum and Base account facts. Check the chain attached to each fact before carrying a contract name, balance or conclusion across networks.

What does a wallet risk flag establish?

The exact-match sanctions report shows how to read a named source claim and its limits. Inspect the matched identifier, dataset date and coverage; a match is not a universal judgment, and absence of a match is not a safety guarantee.

How to read risk-source results

Named matchRead the exact source, designation, date, and scope before acting
No matchThe checked source did not return a named match; this is not proof of safety
UnavailableThe source did not provide an answer, so its risk question remains unknown
AI interpretationA cited explanation, not a replacement for the underlying evidence

Memoir keeps these states separate rather than converting them into a universal wallet safety score. See the current public sources and coverage limits.

Common questions

Is wallet analysis the same as a wallet balance lookup?

No. A balance is one observation at a point in time. Address analysis also examines transaction direction, assets and contracts involved, source-attributed signals and missing coverage. Neither an address's balance nor its visible transfers reveal a person's complete finances.

Can I analyze several wallet addresses together?

A wallet app can manage several addresses. An address investigation does not automatically discover or group them. If you already know which addresses you want to compare, the multi-wallet asset overview shows observed holdings across an explicitly added list kept in your browser.

Do I need AI to analyze a wallet?

No. Source reads, the chronological ledger and evidence inspection work without an AI key. AI can help explain evidence you choose, but its claims still need checking against citations. Memoir asks for a provider setup only when needed for an AI request; it does not need access to your wallet.

Can I check an Ethereum wallet address for free?

Yes. Memoir's core Ethereum and Base investigation is free and does not require an account or per-check credits. Optional AI analysis uses a provider and credential chosen by the user; that provider's pricing applies.

Can a wallet address checker prove that an address is safe?

No. Public sources have bounded coverage, labels can change, and new activity can occur after a check. “No match” means only that a responding source did not return a named match at that time.

Can I tell which wallet or network an address belongs to?

A 0x address does not identify a wallet app, and the same address can have separate state on multiple networks. Read which wallet is this address? to distinguish network observations, account type and public labels.

Can I check a Bitcoin or Solana address here?

No. Memoir currently investigates Ethereum and Base. A missing result on those networks says nothing about activity on Bitcoin, Solana or another unsupported chain. Check the supported sources and networks before interpreting an empty result.

Does the address owner know that I checked it?

Looking up public records does not create an onchain transaction. However, the hosting provider and contacted public data sources can observe normal request metadata and the queried address. Read the network and privacy boundary.

Is wallet screening the same as KYC or KYT?

No. Address screening reviews public address evidence. KYC verifies a customer's identity, while KYT usually refers to ongoing transaction monitoring and operational review. Memoir currently performs user-initiated investigations, not identity verification or continuous compliance monitoring.

Search for evidence, not certainty

A strong crypto wallet check should let another person reproduce the observation: the exact address, chain, source, record, time, and known limitation. That is why Memoir exposes source links and separates evidence, signals, and interpretation.

Never paste a seed phrase or private key into a wallet checker. A public-address investigation only needs the public address.

For a specific record, start with transaction successful but not received or unfamiliar token and NFT activity.
